•• Почти во всех более или менее полных словарях упоминается разговорное употребление этого слова в значении angry. Оно действительно широко распространено, особенно в США и особенно среди детей и молодежи (кстати, разница между ними, во всяком случае в манере говорить, все уменьшается): Is your mom mad at you? И все же для многих у нас это значение становится сюрпризом. В указанном выше примере последние два слова (at you) могут быть и опущены. И тогда слушатель (или переводчик), для которого mad лишь синоним crazy, может быть, мягко говоря, озадачен.
